Speaking of letterpress overseas I just glimpsed a Heidelberg in action through an open door yesterday on the Via dell'Humilita.

Makeready Impressions

Amazing compositions in their own right:

"Second Meeting" Broadside

This broadside from Isak Dinesen's short story "Second Meeting" is printed in two colours on florescent white 110lb Crane Lettra and is set in 12pt ATF Garamond and 20pt Railroad Gothic.

This little accordion book of Edward Lear's poem "Calico Pie" is printed on florescent white 110lb Crane Lettra in 12pt Garamond, 18 and 14pt Parisan and 10pt Century Schoolbook italic, with a drop case C in 24pt Caslon.

Tympanum Press Flyers

This flyer is printed on 100lb white Lenox paper and set in 72 and 24pt Caslon in black and reflex blue. This was printed using photopolymer plates and a Boxcar Base.

Business Cards

These cards are for an international tax law business. They are printed in two colours on 220lb florescent white Crane Lettra in 18pt and 8pt Apple Capitals and 6pt ATF Copperplate Gothic.

Informals

These informals are printed on 110lb cream Rives BFK. The type is 18pt ATF Parisian in reflex blue. The Rives BFK is beautiful and took an exceptional impression.

Pied Type

Nothing like starting off your day by knocking over an entire case of 18pt Parisian.

The good news is the case was falling apart, so we took the opportunity of transferring the type to a case that was in better condition.

6pt ATF Heavy Copperplate Gothic no. 23

We just got two boxes of 6pt. Heavy Copperplate Gothic in the mail and distributed into an empty type case. Now we are ready to finish up the Isak Denison broadside. The fonts came in their original boxes from ATF with the warning to "not mix with an imitation face."

We now have more Copperplate than Garamond.

The insert is printed on Aldi's grocery bags and gives a little information on the printing method, paper and envelope.

Stern Metal Type From the Rimmer Type Foundry

Mr. Rimmer, who died this January, assembled a fantastic collection of foundry equipment and knowledge in his many years in the printing industry, successfully managing to integrate traditional metal and digital font design. This short video is a beautiful tribute to the process, machinery and skill required to cut a new face as well as to its designer.

Parisian Wedding Invitations

These elegant wedding invitations take their name from the Parisian font they are set in. ATF Parisian is a classic twenties era font designed by Morris Fuller Benton along with the more famous Broadway. The strong verticality, low x-height and wide variation in line weight contribute to the restrained yet distinctive look. We have set it in 18pt and 14pt on Crane 110# Lettra in Ivory and Fluorescent White.
